Mother's Day at Rosy's Re-Cap

Wow!

A great time was had by all at Rosy's on Mother's Day.

The place was really busy all night long and there was a fun and enthusiastic crowd there.

I played my Mother's Day favorites which included Mother by Pink Floyd and Mother & Child Reunion by Paul Simon as well as a bunch of other related songs.

On a bittersweet note, after eleven years it was bartender Greg's last night working there. We tried to get him to come up and sing a song with me, but it unfortunately never materialized. We reminisced about a party I played at many years ago that Greg hosted in which the police from 3 different agencies cane to quiet down. Needless to say, it was quite a party!

Best wishes to Greg on all his current and future endeavors. I'm sure our paths will cross again sometime down the road.

I'm scheduled to be back at Rosy's on June 17th, but that may change due to some scheduling conflicts. Time will tell...

We'll keep you posted!

Locally Grown Authors & Artists Re-Cap

Hey there,

Thanks to everyone who came out to see my performance at the Danbury Museum & Historical Society's Locally Grown Author & Artist Series on Saturday.

I had a great time performing my original songs and telling the stories behind them. It was kinda like an episode of MTV's Storytellers.

Here's a rundown of the songs I performed:

These Are The Good Times
This Old Car
Lazy Day
Whatcha Gonna Do
Danbury Westerners Theme
Too Much Time
I've Got The Sun Shinin' Down On Me
He's A Cat
Pretty Kitty
Danbury Fair
The Fog & The Wind & The Rain
The Sun & The Moon & The Stars
Think I'm Fallin' In Love With You
Drivin' At The Racearena

I received some nice reviews on my performance and everyone in attendance seemed to have a good time!

Visit the Photos page to see some photos from the day.

Hey there,

This Saturday, I'm doing something a little different which should be fun!

i will be performing at the Danbury Museum & Historical Society as part of their Locally Grown Authors & Artists series.

The event is free and open to the public.

I will be focusing primarily on my own material with an emphasis on the songs I've written about the City of Danbury. These include: Danbury Fair, The Danbury Westerners Theme and my new one, Drivin' At The Racearena. I plan to perform these aongs as well as provide some insight on the writing and recording process of them. In addition, I will be performing music from my CD's Shades of Dave and Cats and Cars and Presidents. Of course, I'll be sure to throw in a few "hits" as well!

It should be a fun afternoon that I think everyone will enjoy!

The music gets underway at 2:00pm.

Here's a nice little write-up about it on the Danbury Patch: http://danbury.patch.com/events/dave-king-at-the-danbury-museum

Workin' on a New CD!

Yes, it's true!

I recently came to the realization that I have enough songs recorded (in various states of completion) to put together a new CD. Some of the songs, you have heard before and others you have not. In any case, I hope to have the new CD finished by the end of the year for all to enjoy!

Three of the songs to be included on the CD focus on aspects of the city of Danbury, CT.

The songs include:

Danbury Fair - A nostalgic look back at the Great Danbury State Fair which closed in 1981. The music video for the song has received over 12,000 views on YouTube!

The Danbury Westerners Theme - Theme song for the Danbury Westerners baseball team.

Drivin' At The Racearena - A tribute to the former race track in Danbury.

I am putting the finishing touches on all three of these songs right now.

I'm doing some general "sweetening" by using the Slate Digital Audio Virtual Console Collection as well as doing some minor mixing adjustments to levels and EQ in my Digital Audio Workstation, SONAR.

Once these three songs are completed, I will move on to the next. At this point, I'm not sure which song will be next. Time will tell...

When finished, I should have 8 to 10 songs on the CD.

I'll have to start thinking about a title for the CD as well. Hmm...

Any suggestions?

Chili Winter Warm-Up Recap

Hey there,

Well, we had a rollicking good time at the Chili WInter Warm-Up at the Danbury Ice Arena on Sunday. Danbury area newspapers reported that between1500 to 2000 people attended the event: NEWS-TIMES: Chili recipes pack surprises

I got underway at 1:00pm and kept the music upbeat throughout my 90-minute set. Since proceeds from the event went to a variety of charitable organizations in the city of Danbury (including the Danbury Westerners), I played ALL of my Danbury-inspired songs. These included the popular Danbury Fair which reached a milestone of 12,000 views on YouTube last week as well as The Danbury Westerners Theme and Drivin' At The Racearena. Westy, the mascot of the Danbury Westerners did a nice dance routine while I played their theme song and premiered my new musical instrument - a kazoo! My new song about the Danbury Racearena was also well received. All in all, it was a fun afternoon!

A BIG thanks goes out to Carol, Stephanie, Bob and Joe who were all a big help to me throughout the day.

I've posted some photos from the event for you to enjoy on the Photos page.

I may be posting some video from the event as well, so stop back in a day or two...

My next gig will be at Rosy Tomorrows in Danbury, CT on March 11th. Details are on the Performances page.

Until next time...

Peace.

Hey there,

I haven't actually played a gig since New Year's Day so I'm looking forward to returning to Rosy Tomorrows this weekend!

I will be there on Sunday night beginning at 6:00pm.

As usual, the details are on the Performances page.

I've been making good progress on the recording of my latest song, Drivin' At The Racearena. Everything is recorded and I have moved on to the mixing stage. It's coming out great and I think you (and especially racing fans) will really enjoy it! I recently posted some photos from the sessions on the Photos page if you'd like to take a look.

On February 19th, I will be performing at the annual Winter Chili Cook-Off held at the Danbury Ice Arena. It's a fund-raising event for the Danbury Westerners baseball team and other local organizations. It's a fun-filled day with music provided by me and others! Read the article from the Danbury Patch for more info.

Hunkering Down

Hey there,

Well, it's January which is when I usually take a little time off from gigging and work on other things such as recording.

I've been working away on recording tracks for my latest song, Drivin' At The Racearena. I premiered the acoustic version of it at the Southern New York Racing Association Reunion last September. The song went over very well (as can be seen in the video on the Video page) and now I'm working on the full-blown recorded version with full instrumentation. I plan for it to be a rockin' tune and so far the instrumentation includes drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, piano, organ and some sax thrown in for good measure. I think I have all of the various parts recorded at this point, but need to review some of them to make sure they're all "keepers". Once that's done, I'll start work on mixing the song into its finished version. I'm really looking forward to hearing the final product and hope you are too!

I just posted a couple of photos on the Photos page from a recent session when I was recording acoustic guitar for the song...

Not to get too geeky, but I'm also working on upgrading my recording software to the latest version of Sonar which is called X1. In order to do this, I had to upgrade my computer operating system from Windows XP Service Pack 2 to Service Pack 3. Sounds like it should be simple enough, but typically it took a lot longer and was much more involved than I had anticipated. I'm waiting to make sure everything is running smoothly on the PC before I install Sonar X1 (hopefully this weekend). Then... it will be new and improved!

My next gig is at Rosy Tomorrows in Danbury, CT on February 12th. Details are on the Performances page.

I also added a couple of other upcoming performances which should be fun including the Winter Chili Cook-Off at the Danbury Ice Arena and the Locally Grown Artist series at the Danbury Museum and Historical Society. More details on these events will be coming in future posts as they develop.

That's it for now. Hope you're doing well! Now, back to the studio...

Look Out! Here Comes 2012!

Hey there,

Well we had a grand time ushering in the new year at Rosy Tomorrows in Danbury, CT on New Year's Eve.

My performance started at 8:00pm and went straight on through to well past midnight.

As I led the countdown at midnight balloons dropped, noisemakers rang out and glasses of champagne clinked!

A fun time was had by all! Thanks especially to my friends Carol, Carolyn, Greg, Beth, Nancy and Norb (among many others) for joining the festivities. I'd also like to thank bartender Gregg for joining me not once, but twice for rowsing renditions of Sweet Caroline. It's always a crowd pleaser!

If you haven't seen them yet, I've posted some photos from the New Year's Eve celebration on the Photos page. Enjoy!

I will be returning to Rosy Tomorrows in February for another performance on the 12th. Details are on the Performances page.

This month's Free Music download is I'm Missing You from my Shades of Dave album. Cruise on over to the Free Music page to get your free copy now!

I plan to hunker down and get busy with recording during the cold winter months and will hopefully have some new music for you in the Spring. Stay tuned...

...and keep warm!

Peace,

Dave
